I was thoroughly ready to embrace Spring the other day, and now the grey, drizzly weather has hit once again- dammit! I bought some beautiful tulips last weekend to brighten up the flat (and use for blog photos- shhh!) so at least I can feel Spring-like from the comfort of my sofa whilst it pours down outside.
This is my first ever ’empties’ post, and I’m excited to share with you all which products I have completely used up because I can be quite fickle and desert a product for a new one before I’ve finished it!
Nivea Daily Essentials Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water
I bought this a few months ago, as my favourite Garnier Micellar Water had finally run out after 6 months of daily use. If you read my last lunchtime haul post then you’ll already know some of my thoughts on this product, but I can’t decide if I’m being unfair in saying it was drying, because I’ve been using it whilst my skin was already at its driest from the cold winter weather. However, since using L’Oreal’s Micellar Water I can safely say that, whilst the product itself may not have been the cause for the dryness and tight feeling I was experiencing on my forehead, it certainly didn’t help. The L’Oreal products have been a Godsend for my dry skin and I couldn’t recommend them enough.
This particular micellar water is not great value for money, as you’re paying just a few pence less than the Garnier Micellar Water for half the product (£4.07 for 200ml of Nivea, £4.99 for 400ml of Garnier on boots.com). I suppose it was gentle on my sensitive skin in that it didn’t make it sting or anything, but I had to rub my eyes a lot to remove my mascara so it’s not quite strong enough unless you soak your eyes with a cotton pad for a long time which I don’t have the patience for!
Repurchase: Probably not
I would have given it another chance if it were on offer, but there are so many other alternatives out there now, it would be a while before I’d try this one again.
Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel
This is one of my favourite ever winter shower gels, because it smells like mulled wine and makes you feel so warm and cosy- like a big, Christmassy hug in a bottle. This was part of my Cosy Christmas Gift Set that I reviewed last month, and I was gutted as I actually did repurchase this after a few uses, because the full-price bottles were in the Lush sale, but I stupidly left the bag with it in on a train (I got the bag and the rest of its contents back, but the shower gel was nowhere to be seen! Whoever took it obviously had good taste, but still…) So now I will have to wait until next Christmas (hopefully!) to experience this beauty again.
It looks really glittery, and I was worried this would stay on my skin, but it’s purely to make the bottle look even more magical and it doesn’t have the unattractive 90’s glitter effect I was dreading. It’s lovely and festive, but I would use this all through the Autumn and Winter (and probably the other seasons too!) to make me feel snuggly and smell amazing all day!
Repurchase: Yes (again!)
Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Moisturising Day Cream
This has to be at least the sixth or seventh tube of this moisturiser I have squeezed to its limits! This is the one product I have repurchased more than any other (apart from maybe Vaseline, but my mum always seems to buy me that and I now have an endless supply!) and I could not recommend it enough for those with dry or sensitive skin. I have used so many moisturisers before, and found that all the ones for dry skin take forever to sink in and leave my skin really shiny and heavy-feeling, so I was dubious when I first purchased this one. I was very surprised at how quickly it sinks in and leaves my skin super soft without being too shiny, and at how well it tackles my dryness and sensitivity. I will say it does have quite a strong but delicate floral scent (bit of a contradiction, but I know what I mean!), which sometimes makes me stop and think how it works so well, but I guess you can’t have everything!
It’s not quite heavy duty enough for the depths of winter when my eczema kicks in and attacks my face, but I still carry on using it and apply my medicated moisturiser at night. For every day use before putting on makeup, I swear by it and can’t imagine using anything else for a while! There have been other temptations, but I just think that nothing for me could compare to the value for money and effect this has on my skin. The tube may look small, but even once it looks like there’s none left if you squeeze the tube to its limits (as you can see I have done here!) it easily lasts another month or so. You don’t need much product, and at £4.19 (or when it’s on offer- quite often at half price!) it is brilliant value compared to some other moisturisers on the market.
Repurchase: Yes- again and again!
Nivea Powerfruit Delight Shower Gel
I only just realised that most of the products in this post are Nivea! I guess I like the brand more than I thought… This may seem like a bit of a boring one, but I think it’s important to point out that I have sensitive skin all over (not just on my face) and have had some bad experiences with scented shower gels before. Nivea’s range, however, have never been a problem at all and they come in so many different scents you don’t have to restrict yourself if you have sensitive skin! Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but for me their shower gels cause no problems at all.
I am not loyal at all when it comes to shower gels, and will buy almost anything as long as it’s on offer, but these just happen to always be on offer somewhere whether it’s Boots or my local supermarket! I picked a new one up just last weekend- their shower creme in Happy Time, because I used to love the body lotion and shower gel and use them all the time. The scent is so citrussy and cheerful- it really does make me feel happy!
I hope you enjoyed reading which products I liked enough to see through until the bitter end! If you want to buy any to try them for yourself, you can find them in the links below, or in your local pharmacy/drugstore:
