Lunchtime Budget Haul #3: Beauty

Happy Friday my lovelies!

This can only mean one thing- it’s another Lunchtime Budget Haul! I mentioned in my budget interiors haul post last week that I wanted to go back to beauty this week as I had a lot on my wish list, and I wasn’t disappointed. Yesterday, I went through to Leeds for the first time in ages for the BBC Short Form Talent Search. They were looking for potential new short form content creators and, whilst I haven’t had any experience videoing myself before, when they contacted me I decided to go for it! Armed with my latest budget beauty kit, off I went…

Oh, Make Up Academy, you never cease to amaze me! They’re always a good stop if you’re wanting your moneys’ worth, and I definitely got that. On my wish list for this week was; a brow pencil, a lip pencil and a powder highlighter. These are all things I am completely lacking in my make up bag, and *shock horror* I’ve never actually owned a lip pencil (or a powder highlighter for that matter!).

After applying the Lip Liner in Caramel Nougat for the first time (they don’t seem to have it online but I love this one!) I immediately thought “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!” I wear it all over my lips as it gives a great nude finish and is quite creamy so doesn’t dry them out. At just £1, you too can have that Kylie Jenner look for a much lower price than Mac’s Soar Pencil and Velvet Teddy lipstick (although these are both on my premium beauty wish list nonetheless!) It even comes with a sharpener in the lid, and even though it’s quite soft and mine already needs sharpening after 3 uses, IT’S ONE ENGLISH POUND, PEOPLE! You can buy 10 if you feel like it and still have great value for money.

The brow pencil I bought isn’t online for some reason, but I just bought it in the blonde colour as I have quite pale and sparse eyebrows so I didn’t want to dive straight in to the drawn-on look! I just wanted something to emphasise my brows a bit more that I can use without feeling self-conscious, and this one is perfect as it comes with a little brush to tame brows/remove excess product on the other end. Another daily beauty favourite, and again priced at only £1!

I had my eye on their new Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder during my last beauty haul, but as it’s £3 (still amazingly priced) I put it off because I was greedy and wanted to get all the £1 lipsticks! This time though, I went for it and I’m so glad I did. You don’t need to apply too much, and it gives my skin a lovely even glow (I have permanently pink cheeks, but not in the cute ‘ooh I just pinched my cheeks’ way, in the ‘when I run I have a red beard’ kind of way). I bought the Real Techniques core collection brush kit last weekend- there’s a review coming in the next few days so keep an eye out- and have been using the powder brush to give a light dusting of highlighter on my cheeks, forehead and… well, all over really. You can see the full natural look using all these products below (apologies for my puffy eyes in the second image- that was this morning before I’d properly woken up).

What I am actually most impressed with from my haul is a freebie! My Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation I use every day is on its last legs and I was panicking, so I ran around trying to find a kind soul at one of the make-up counters who could provide me with some freebies. Seriously, free foundation samples can last ages and that’s how I got into Estee Lauder’s Double Wear foundation as one tiny bottle lasted me over a month! I wasn’t just scrounging- I need an idea as to what I’ll try next, and I never buy products like foundation or mascara that I use every day on a whim.

I ended up at the No7 counter and used their Match Made service to find out what shade I needed in their Stay Perfect foundation. Turns out I am Calico, which is one of the palest (no surprises there) and the lovely counter assistant gave me a pot to try- bingo! I wanted to try it straight away, so I used it this morning and was blown away! I used my foundation brush to spread it across my face (you only need a tiny amount) and then my fingers to blend (I’m not a big foundation brush lover, really). It has stayed on my face so well today and the shade matches so perfectly, plus the coverage which such a small amount is excellent so I would have no issues with spending £14 on this from Boots here. You can see above that my skin doesn’t look all red and blotchy for once and I’m actually quite pleased with today’s look!

Here’s a list of all the other products I used:

Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Moisturising Day Cream

Benefit Porefessional Primer

Benefit Dandelion and Rockateur blushers (from my Cheeky Sweet Spot palette)

Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Hope you enjoyed this week’s budget beauty haul! Who knows what next week’s will bring? I quite fancy some frilly ankle socks so another Primark trip may be in order…

I’ll be hearing back from the BBC in 3 weeks as to whether they liked me and the short form video I recorded for them- fingers crossed! If you’d like to see me do some Youtube videos I’d love to hear from you!

Have a great weekend everyone :)
