So, 2015 is well upon us now (Christmas feels an entire lifetime ago!), and now that I’m cutting back to just one day a week at my waitressing job, my evenings will be all freed up for spending time with my favourite people, blogging, and getting back into exercising! Everyone knows that working out is so much more fun when you can do it in gorgeous gear that makes you feel good, as well as giving you the right support for the type of exercise you’re doing.
It’s funny because, apart from dance which I’ve done for most of my life, I used to DETEST exercise. Mostly because I was always on the chubby side and felt completely out of sync with everyone else (and the more competitive of those in my class didn’t hesitate to point this out). It really knocked my self-confidence, but since I started uni and started exercising more and more, I realised it was actually enjoyable and the results even more so! I particularly like running, whether that’s on a treadmill or outdoors. It is so satisfying when you can push yourself just that little bit harder each time to achieve your personal best or reach your own little milestone. When me and George go running together, he challenges me to race to the end of the street when I’m on my last legs, and it makes you realise what your body can do when a little competition is involved! So, since fitness is on everyone’s minds right now, I thought I would put together a little post of my ideal workout wardrobe, and what I’ll be purchasing to get me back into my routine and loving it! First up, we’ll start at the bottom…
I have heard that Nike Free running trainers are some of the best, and in the stylish and striking patterns they come in, they certainly look the part! The trainers I have at the moment are really comfy Reebok toning ones, but they’re definitely not meant for running and I should probably get some that are designed to support your feet and give them some breathing space. They’re not cheap, but they’re certainly worth it to keep you healthy and reducing the chance of getting injured. Office stock some really funky designs, and you can find the above here and here (even more appealing is that they do 10% off for students- I’m always one for a bargain!) Whilst I was having fun window-shopping, I thought I’d design my own pair of Nike Free Flyknits, which you can see below- I am obsessed with mint and I added the little strip of pink in for the wow factor- how beautiful are they?! But at £135 for a customised pair, I think I’ll stick to the high street for now!
Now, onto workout wear. Missguided have just launched their new activewear range, and I am SO EXCITED. It has taken the fashion blogging world by a storm! I am a big Missguided fan because their clothes are so affordable and stylish- they never miss a trend. And now they actually sell affordable workout clothes? Hallelujah!
My first pick are these gorgeous print leggings. I love leggings for my day-to-day wardrobe for their comfort and versatility, but I also always wear them for running and the gym because they’re so practical! The blue tones in these are so dreamy, I may want to venture outside the gym in them, and they come higher up to eliminate belly-wobble (a constant struggle).
Now, anyone who exercises regularly will probably want to slap me here, but I do not own a sports bra. I know this is really bad especially for running, but I have just never thought I really needed one! However, it’s getting to the stage now where I should really look after myself better, so I will definitely be investing in one now that they are so affordable AND beautiful! This patterned one to match the leggings is just perfect- first on my list.
I promise my blue obsession is almost over, but first are these really wearable mesh insert leggings that are a bit more subtle but still gorgeous. If you don’t want to stand out too much at the gym, then these are probably for you, as they still inject a bit of colour into an outfit. You can see them more clearly in this post by EmTalks, who has given a great review of her picks from the range and shows them off a bit better than the photos on the website.
Considering my sports bra collection is currently a big fat ZERO, I’ll be adding more than one to my collection! I am obsessed with anything mint-coloured, and this one has a gorgeous crossover back that contrasts with the grey so well. I would always wear a t-shirt or vest over the top because I am still very ab-conscious, even though I’m much more confident than I used to be.
This double-layered t-shirt is the perfect gym cover-up until I’m happy enough to get my belly out a bit more! It looks super-soft and it’s nice and simple to contrast with the crazy patterned leggings! Now, onto the new boohoo.com fitness range. I have to say I wasn’t as impressed with this range for practicality, as a lot of the pieces have only a very loose sportswear connection and are more trend-based than practical for working out in. I think this is what they’re aiming for by the sounds of their website, but I prefer to keep my sportswear in the gym! Still, there are a couple of pieces that I would consider wearing both on and off the treadmill…
I love the pretty pastel colours in these leggings, and paired with the simple grey cropped t-shirt on the right, I think they would make a fab workout or off-duty combination! I love wearing cropped t-shirts with leggings to show a teeny bit of flesh, so this is ideal for working out when I’m making the transition from baggy tee to full-on sports bra as my fitness improves. I would definitely consider wearing this in the spring as a daytime casual outfit, too. Bring on the warmth!
What are your thoughts on the new online high street activewear ranges? Has anyone bought any of the new pieces and tried them out? How are your fitness resolutions going? I’d love to hear about it :)
