It’s been a while since I wrote a post in my Fitspiration series, but with my first 10k run fast-approaching, I’ve been back in the saddle (or sports bra) to prepare myself for this huge challenge. I can’t believe I have been blogging for over 6 months and have never mentioned anything to do with my taste in music- I love music, and it is a huge part of my life- and it’s time to share my (
slightly very eclectic) playlist with the world. I physically cannot run without music- even when I’m running with someone, talking is just not the one when hurling your sweaty self around. It has to be motivational, and keep me running when I feel like giving up, so without further ado I present my ultimate running playlist!
Heart and Soul – Twin Atlantic
This song, you guys, is just the best for when you’re reaching the end of a run, or a steep incline, and need that extra shove. The final chorus was made for running across a finish line, or running up some steps a la Rocky.
Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Okay, here’s the first random one. I love me a bit of Queen, and this is the song I crossed the Race For Life finish line to last year. Not the depressing (but still brilliant) beginning, but as soon as the tempo picks up this is a brilliant one to thrash out an epic run to. The final guitar solo is just epic to cross the finish line to.
Super Bass – Nicki Minaj
Yep, I’m serious. But really, who doesn’t like a bit of Minaj, in secret or otherwise? Can’t beat some cheesy pop to get those legs moving.
Let Me Entertain You – Robbie Williams
The build-up to the first chorus is great for starting off to, and then when the chorus kicks in you’ll just want to sprint (but don’t, unless that’s your thing) because you feel so damn epic.
Jumping All Over The World – Scooter
Don’t laugh at me, guys. This song reminds me of my first under-18’s club night, when we all wore shorts that barely covered our arses and put as much sparkly jewellery on as we could find. Oh, memories. The pounding beat and the word ‘hardcore’ being repeated over and over keeps me going for the entire song.
Bom Bom – Sam and The Womp
This song is a solid reminder of my first fresher’s week, and I still love it to this day. The steady beat sets a great running pace, and feel free to do some crazy running/dancing in the chorus.
bumblebeee – Kasabian
When it comes to motivation, nothing beats a good shouty rock song. The chorus for this is perfect for picking up the pace- I physically cannot run slowly to it.
Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson
*SASSY EMOJI ALERT* Although it’s a fairly slow beat, nothing makes your warm-up/cool-down feel sassier than a Bruno Mars vocal.
Get Ready For It – Take That
A new favourite, since seeing Take That on their tour in Manchester last week! Their latest album is filled with punchy techno-beat songs that are basically running soundtrack porn, and this is also soundtrack to my new favourite film- Kingsmen: Secret Service– which you should all go watch right now, it’s awesome! Other favourites from the album are I Like It, Portrait and Let In The Sun.
America’s Suitehearts – Fall Out Boy
Again with the rock- it really is a great motivator! The chorus makes me want to run until my legs come off.
Babel – Mumford & Sons
Running? To Mumford & Sons? Surely not! Yes, it’s true- their awesome cheery banjo-playing is actually perfect for keeping your pace and keeping you going. This is my personal favourite.
This is only a handful of the songs on my playlist, otherwise we could be here a while and I’m not sure the likes of *cough* Steps *cough* would appeal to many other people! What are your favourite running/workout songs? I’m always updating my playlist and love rediscovering old favourites or finding new ones! Does music help to motivate you when exercising?
