I’ve had a bit of a break from blogging this week as I’ve been really busy working (during the day and night!) but now it’s Saturday and I’ve finally had the time to photograph my beauty essentials! This is my first beauty post and I’ve got lots more to share with you, but I thought I’d start with the basics.
First of all, I love my make up bag itself. My mum bought it for me for my 21st birthday and it’s nice because I didn’t get many little presents because all I wanted was a ring from my family. The message on the front is so lovely ‘Don’t let anyone ever dull your sparkle’ and it cheers me up when I’m putting on my make up!
So let’s start with the basics. I never used to use a primer, but when I went to my local Benefit counter and they tried it on me, that all changed! I physically cannot put foundation on without a primer now after discovering this amazing product- you don’t need much to cover your face, and it feels so velvety and smooth. My foundation glides on over the top and it helps it go further so you don’t even need to use much! You can buy Benefit Porefessional here– there’s no surprise that it’s the UK’s best selling primer.
My foundation at the moment is Rimmel’s Lasting Finish 25 Hour foundation, which you can buy here. I have a fickle history with foundations, as I used to just buy whatever was cheapest and stick with it until the bitter end (or until I got bored and the next wonder product came along!) Then I discovered Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation and I decided that I had found the foundation I wanted to stick with. Both my mum and grandma have used it for years and have always raved about it, and my grandma bought me a bottle to try. Despite it’s price, it really does last forever as you don’t need much- I had mine for almost a year before it ran out! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the money at the time to buy a replacement, so I spent a long time in Boots trying out every foundation under the sun to find one that was similar but for a much smaller price tag.
I came across this Rimmel foundation and thought I would give it a try. At only £7.99, it’s a bargain compared to Estee Lauder, but I was doubtful it would live up to it. However, I am still using it after over 6 months and it’s going strong, as well as being a fantastic foundation! I’m convinced it wouldn’t work as well without Porefessional underneath though, so I think a primer is still an essential.
As you can probably tell, I’m a bit of a Benefit fan! A few years ago, I bought their Sugarbomb blusher (and still have a tiny bit left after using it every day for over a year!) and was completely converted. In September 2013, I bought Rockateur after it had just launched, because the colour looked so great with my skin tone. I still use it everyday now and it’s only just getting down to the bottom- pretty impressive! I’m currently taking a break from it whilst using the Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot palette that I got for Christmas, and Dandelion and Coralista are my favourites so far. It’s great because I get to use a different blusher depending on my mood- a review of this is coming soon!
Another Benefit product I swear by is their They’re Real! Mascara. Since I first tried it at the Benefit counter for my 18th birthday, I was in love and I knew it was the best mascara I had ever come across! It stays on all day and gives a really good curve to lashes. The little bobbly bit at the end of the brush allows you to poke individual lashes into submission, which is great for adding extra oomph if you’re going from day to night. I have tried other mascaras since, and haven’t gone more than a few days using it without caving and buying another They’re Real! If you’re short of cash, try the travel-size version which is under a tenner from Boots stores, and see what all the fuss is about!
So there you have it- my daily make-up routine, that hardly varies from day-to-day. The only other thing I add is lipstick, depending on my mood, so there’s some separate reviews coming up of my favourite new lippies.
